Link Assistant to Phone Number

Linking connects your AI assistant to a phone number so it can receive and handle calls.

Prerequisites

Before linking:
  • Your assistant must be published (has been synced to Vapi)
  • Your phone number must be active (purchased and not suspended)
  1. Go to Phone Numbers in the sidebar
  2. Find the phone number you want to link
  3. Click the Link action button

  1. Click Confirm — the link is established immediately

What Happens Behind the Scenes

When you link an assistant to a phone number:

Endpoint created

A routing endpoint is created on KrosAI that points to your Vapi assistant.

Phone number updated

The phone number is configured to route calls through the new endpoint.

Number marked as assigned

The phone number shows the linked assistant in the dashboard.

Calls start flowing

Any incoming call to that number is now handled by your assistant.

Constraints

  • A phone number can only be linked to one assistant (or one squad) at a time
  • You cannot link to a squad if already linked to an assistant (and vice versa)
  • The assistant must have a Vapi ID (must be published)

Viewing Linked Numbers

On the Phone Numbers page, linked numbers show the assigned assistant:

To switch to a different assistant:
  1. Unlink the current assistant
  2. Link the new assistant
There’s a brief moment between unlinking and relinking where calls won’t be handled. Do this during low-traffic periods.
